Thank you to everyone who came out to our 4th Annual Day on the Hill with our partners at Housing for All Tennessee, the first statewide coalition in Tennessee to bring together issues of homelessness, tenant’s rights, and truly affordable housing!
On February 24th, our coalition members convened over 140 tenants, people who had experienced homelessness, nonprofit leaders, organizers, and community members in Nashville. We lifted up the voices and stories of people who are directly impacted by the housing crisis in our state. We also educated over 70 of our Tennessee legislators on our issues and urged them to act!
Our top issues this year included:
The need to reverse a recent law that requires tenants to post a *full year of rent* in order to appeal an eviction.
The need to require landlords to provide air conditioning as a basic habitability standard in Tennessee in order to protect vulnerable tenants during heat waves.
The need to channel our state resources into compassionate and effective solutions to homelessness like permanent supportive housing. (Click here to see our one-pager on homelessness with policy solutions!)
Tennesseans are coming together like never before to fight for solutions and we’re encouraged by positive responses we received from many legislators across the aisle. If you’d like to learn more about how you can get involved with Housing for All TN, please visit housingforalltn.org/get-involved
Thank you again to everyone who helped make this year’s event a success!
